News Update – 2 October 2017

2nd October 2017

Increasing numbers at the foodbank

August 2017 saw a sharp rise in the number of people being served by our foodbank compared to August 2016.

In the month of August 2016 we fed a total of 117 people, of which 59 were children.

In August 2017 we fed a total of 246 people, of which 71 were children.

This represents an overall increase of 110%.

Proportionately the number of children being fed was down (51% of people fed last August compared to 29% this year).

Volunteer Update

We are always delighted when new volunteers join us! Welcome to Saffron, Natalie, Bernie, Lance and David.

We also received great help last week from a group of students from Brighton College. Thanks for all your hard work.

And many congratulations to our volunteer, Matthew, who got married last weekend!

Donations

All donations make such a difference; big or small.

Thank you to Lidl for your continued support – we really appreciate it!

Doug, our foodbank manager, visited Infinity Foods this week and thanked them for all the donations we have received from their in-store collection point.  Over 300 kilos to date!

St Nicholas’ Church in Saltdean continue to be such a wonderful support with frequent generous donations, as do our friends at St Margaret’s Church in Rottingdean.

And we received our first donation from Vanessa and Preloved of Brighton (pictured) who have been collecting toiletries and sanitary products for us – thank you so much!

Looking ahead

This month sees a collection at one of the home games of Whitehawk FC.  The Whitehawk Ultras have been wonderful supporters of the foodbank for some time and we look forward to visiting and cheering them on.

Could your school or business collect for us this Harvest Festival? Please drop us an email if you would like to help us.

Thank you!
